The Bellevue Hospital Appoints New President

The Bellevue Hospital (TBH) recently promoted Sara K. Brokaw to president of the hospital. As TBH’s president, Brokaw will spearhead the implementation of strategic initiatives including physician recruitment, service line development and operational excellence. She also will continue to serve as the chief nursing officer (CNO). 

“In 2024, our strategic goal is to strengthen our physician base, hospital service lines and continue to remain a viable independent, community hospital,” said Timothy A. Buit, TBH’s chief executive officer. “With Sara’s extensive clinical and leadership experience, she will continue to ensure that we look at our community’s health needs as we bring quality care, close to home.” 

Brokaw has been employed by TBH since 2013. Most recently, she served as chief operating officer and chief nursing officer. Prior to that, she was vice president of patient care services. During her career at TBH, Brokaw has had oversite of all clinical departments. She also launched new service lines including vein treatment, med spa services, wound reconstruction, pain management, cancer care and infusion services and medication management. In addition, she has a passion for educating and developing leaders and implemented training programs such as Crucial Conversations and Leadership Development Institutes (LDI). 

Prior to coming to TBH, Brokaw served as chief of nursing at Mercy Regional Medical Center, Lorain for two years. 

Brokaw began her nursing career at Community Health Partners, Lorain, as manager of the orthopedics, neuroscience, spine and stroke center. She then became director of that unit, director of care coordination and then administrative director of nursing services. 

Brokaw is currently working on her doctorate of health administration/master of business from Walden University in Baltimore, MD. She also earned her master of science in nursing from Walden University. Brokaw received her bachelor of arts from Baldwin Wallace University and an associate's degree in nursing from Lorain County Community College. 

Brokaw is a member of the American Organization of Nursing Leadership, State of Ohio Trauma Committee rural representation, and Center for Creative Leadership alumni. She also served as past president of North Central Ohio Organization of Nursing Leadership from 2017-2020 and board member for Ohio Organization of Nursing Leadership from 2017-2022. 

She resides in Milan with her husband, Jim. They have four children and two grandchildren.
